At the same assumed price, $1,000,000 divided by $72,500 is approximately 13.7931 BTC before costs. Multiplying when you should divide can turn a modest quantity into a wildly misleading headline.

Decide what the reference price represents

A price can be an exchange's last trade, a bid, an ask, or an aggregate assembled from several markets. These are related observations, but they are not identical. A last trade records one completed transaction; it does not establish the price available for a million-coin sale.

Separate quoted wealth from sale proceeds

An actual sale depends on buyers, available depth, execution timing, and transaction costs. A very large order may transact at multiple prices. The correct gross proceeds calculation would then add the value of each completed fill, rather than multiply every coin by the first displayed price.

For a smaller illustrative sale, suppose 2 BTC sell at $72,500 each and another 3 BTC sell at $72,300 each. Gross proceeds equal $145,000 plus $216,900, or $361,900. The average sale price is $72,380 per BTC. This is a made-up execution example, not a forecast for how any particular order would fill.

Fees reduce that gross amount further. A hypothetical flat $900 total cost would leave $361,000 before any other applicable costs. The example shows why a valuation and a cash receipt can differ without either calculation being arithmetically wrong. Scaling up the coin count does not eliminate that distinction.

Avoid inferring ownership from a large number

Knowing what one million BTC would be worth does not establish that a particular person controls one million BTC. An estimate of holdings, a collection of addresses, and verified ability to authorize spending are different kinds of evidence. Public ledger data does not automatically label every balance with its beneficial owner.

Similarly, an amount described as lost may remain visible in historical records while being unavailable to its former owner. Multiplication can assign a reference value to that amount; it cannot restore access or establish that the coins will ever be sold.

Present the final result in one transparent sentence: quantity, reference price, timestamp, and calculated value, followed by whether the figure represents valuation or realized proceeds.
